Gav does LARP, and he wants me to go along with him. So, after some thought (about 2 seconds!) I thought I'd try my hand at archery, and we went and bought a bow and arrows. Never done it before, but he was impressed by my accuracy (or luck, depending on how you look at it!) as I managed to hit the target quite a few times - more than him actually :-P

But I think next time I practise, I'm going to wear a bracer...twang bruises look pretty but hurt like hell:

Now I just need to try my hand at sword fighting (Gav's going to teach me), and find a LARP-safe morningstar/flail, because I'm already good with those but I can't really use my lethal battleready one in a LARP event!

I am absolutely disgusted by this story. It shows just how fuckwittish our government is, and how they'd rather attack innocent people than try and solve any of the country's real problems:

"A MOTHER is taking her fight to the European Court of Human Rights after she was forbidden from seeing her three-year-old daughter because she is not “clever enough” to look after her.

The woman, who for legal reasons can be identified only by her first name, Rachel, has been told by a family court that her daughter will be placed with adoptive parents within the next three months, and she will then be barred from further contact.

The adoption is going ahead despite the declaration by a psychiatrist that Rachel, 24, has no learning difficulties and “good literacy and numeracy and [that] her general intellectual abilities appear to be within the normal range”.

Her daughter, K, was born prematurely and officials felt Rachel lacked the intelligence to cope with her complex medical needs Baby K was released from hospital into care and is currently with a foster family. Her health has now improved to the point where she needs little or no day-to-day medical care.

* Court takes child of ‘stupid’ mother

Rachel said last night: “I have been totally let down by the system. All I want is to care for my daughter but the council and the court are determined not to let me.

“The court here has now ordered that my contact with my daughter must be reduced from every fortnight until in three months’ time it will all be over and I will never see her again.”

Rachel has now lodged an appeal with the European Court of Human Rights, which has the power to stop the child being given to another family. She has also applied for a judicial review of the adoption order.

Her attempts to fight Nottingham city council’s adoption of her daughter have been hampered because her case was taken over by the official solicitor, the government-funded lawyer who acts for those unable to represent themselves. He was brought in to represent Rachel’s interests because she was judged to be intellectually incapable of instructing her own solicitor. He declined to contest the council’s adoption application, despite her wish to do so.

After the psychiatrist’s assessment of Rachel, the court has now acknowledged that she does have the mental capacity to keep up with the legal aspects of her situation. It has nevertheless refused her attempts to halt the adoption process.

John Hemming, Liberal Democrat MP for Birmingham Yardley, who is campaigning on Rachel’s behalf, said: “The way Rachel has been treated is appalling. She has been swept aside by a system that seems more interested in securing a child for adoption than preserving a natural family unit.” "

Just some random thoughts to organise my mind...

OK. We got the house. It's been so long since I've moved home I can't for the life of me think what to do next! I know I need to inform all my utilities; Scottish Power, Welsh Water, Sky, TalkTalk, of the move. Luckily the new place is already set up for Sky and broadband, and is on the same energy provider as this place.

Need to inform bank, card companies, council, TV licence, DVLA...it's a lot to do!

Also have to pack. That's gonna be the worst bit. Need to throw a lot of stuff out. The new place has a fully fitted kitchen so we're getting rid of the fridge, washing machine and tumble dryer (they're old anyway), but my parents are going to store the cooker for us because it's new and I'd like it just in case we'd need it in the future. The dining table is going as it's falling apart anyway. Probably also get rid of the PC desk as we can just use the new dining table in the new house. We both have laptops so it's easy enough.

Need to get shot of tons of books - I've got far too many anyway and they're just too bulky to be carting around. The charity shop will love me!

So much to do...need to hand my tenancy notice into my current landlords tomorrow, giving them my 28 day notice to move out. Which will mean our moving date will be 14th June, although Susan (new landlady) will hopefully let us start moving stuff into the house before then to make things easier.

I'm excited, but at the same time a little apprehensive; I've been in this flat for 8 years now and I guess I'm in a kind of rut. But it will be so nice to have a proper home; this flat's never really felt like one. And I'll have to remember how to use stairs :-P

Blackpool was awesome! Driving through from the motorway on the way to Lisa's house was surreal, like nothing had changed. Got to Li's, had a coffee then drove through to Ally's, had another coffee, then to her sister's house and then onto town where we met up again with Lisa. The town centre itself was like being in a parallel universe - familiar, yet so different; shops had opened/closed/bveen knocked down, and strange giant metal arches had appeared down some of the streets. Apparently they're going to have lasers on them...

Sat night Li and I went to the only rock club in that area, the Tache. Complete dive from the outside but inside it was great. Good music, friendly people (except this one stupid blonde bitch who for some reason took a dislike to us and gave Lisa evils all night). Got chatting to some of the regulars and Lisa got totally pissed on Newcastle Brown. I'm not going to let her live it down!

Sunday went round the shops again, then I went to Ally's for sunday dinner, then came home. Only took just over an hour - definitely quicker than going to Bradford, and much more fun :-P

Well...seeing as I bombed out and bought the wrong size tapers for my ears (thought I was a 14mm, bought 16mm only to find I'm already 16mm) I went trawling through the various body piercing stores in the UK to find something decent in an 18mm - you'd be surprised how difficult it is to find anything good after a 12mm.

But anyway, I found this one site which had these very pretty 18mm spirals on, at only £3.50 each. So I bought two. I'm gonna stretch both lobes at the same time and wear them when I go to Blackpool at the weekend.

Hope they arrive in time!

Course it does mean that I'll then have to find some 18mm tunnels but I'm sure there'll be some stores in blackpool which do them. Maybe the body piercing clinic where I used to get pierced will sell jewellery now...

Tell me something...are all guys inconsiderate? Is it normal for them to completely ignore your texts for 2 whole days purely because they're doing artwork and can't be bothered taking out 2 minutes to send you a text letting you know that fact?

Seriously, is this typical male behaviour, to get so engrossed in your work that you basically forget about other people? I really wanna know...

You know how, when you go on holiday they tell you not to drink the water? Well, That's the case here at home now too. The county of Flintshire where I live has issued warnings about traces of bacteria known to cause E-coli being found in the water system. This means that all tap water is unsafe unless boiled first, and even water cooler machines are having to be avoided.

Can't even use water to brush our teeth. Gav, bless him, was really concerned yesterday that I wasn't having any water straight from the tap. Apparently pregnant women are at a greater risk than others.

So I'm now having to buy bottles of Volvic for the cats and snakes' water. Not bothered about myself, all I drink at the moment is coffee.

But it comes to something when you can't drink the bloody water in your own home!

Hmph. Went into Wrexham today, visited the piercing shop and got some 16mm stretcher cones because I've gotten bored of my 14mm tunnels. I get home, I go to stretch and...dammit, I'm already at 16mm. Shoulda gotten 18mm. Still, now I got a neon yellow and a bright shiny blue cone to wear when I go out, so it ain't all bad. I'll just get some 18mm claws off the net or something, cos the shop didn't have any 18s.
